The Autism Fund Inc. is a tax-exempt, non-profit, 501(c) (3) registered charity which raises money to treat children with symptoms on the Autism Spectrum and who live within Florida’s Lee and Collier Counties.
The fund is managed by a high profile Board of Directors and day to day operations are performed by a team of volunteers.
Meet the Board
The Autism Fund was founded in 2008 and is governed by a very experienced Board of Directors, most of whom live and work within Lee and Collier Counties. They include:
Board President – Virginia Fleming
Sanibel Island, Florida
Ms. Fleming is fully involved in charitable causes in Southwest Florida. Currently, she is President of the Southwest Florida Children’s Hospital Advisory Board. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the Sanibel Captiva Trust Co., is a Trustee of the Sanibel Community Church, and is Treasurer of the Sanibel Captiva Literary Review. She is a past Executive Board member of both the Southwest Florida Community Foundation and the Lee Memorial Health Services Foundation, and has served on the Boards of the Schoolhouse Theater Foundation, the Edison Ford Homes Foundation, the Southwest Florida Symphony, and the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, among others. She is also a prominent civic leader in this area.
Board Vice-President – Dr. Marcia Greene
Fort Myers, Florida
Dr. Greene is the Dean of Education at Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers. She has had a distinguished career as both an educator and an administrator, and is frequently involved with charitable causes in this area. She recently spearheads and is currently on the Planning Committee for “Promising Pathways”, a very successful conference on Autism held annually at FGCU.
Board Secretary – Anne Haslem
Sanibel Island, Florida
Ms. Haslem is a former teacher and also former Executive Assistant to US Senator Birch Beyh of Indiana. Prior to retiring to Florida, Ms. Haslem was involved in various charitable causes in both of her states of residence, Indiana and Colorado. In Florida, she has involved herself with BIG Arts of Sanibel-Captiva.
Board Treasurer – Eileen Roulston
Fort Myers, Florida
Mrs. Roulston, SRN, practiced nursing in her native Ireland before marrying Alexander W. Roulston, CA (Scots) who retired as Corporate Controller of Johnson & Johnson Inc. Mrs. Roulston was involved in numerable charitable causes in Canada, Brazil and New Jersey before moving to Florida. She is currently a member of “Mended Hearts”, a support group for people with heart disease and regularly visits heart patients and their families at Lee Memorial Hospital. She is also a Hope Hospice volunteer. The Roulstons have made significant contributions to Cardiac Care at Lee Memorial Health System.
Member-at-Large – Dr. Monica Sylvia
Syracuse, New York
Dr Sylvia holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Currently she is an Associate Professor of Psychology at LeMoyne College, Syracuse, New York. In addition to her teaching duties, she researches cognitive development during the infant and early childhood years.
Member-at-Large – Dr. Stephen Brown
Sanibel, Florida
Dr. Brown is a member of the Board of Directors of the Lee Memorial Health System and Liaison to the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. He is also Chairman of the Lee Memorial Children’s Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the Sanibel-Captiva Trust Co. He is a former mayor of the City of Sanibel, FL and served on the Sanibel City Council for nine years.

The Manager – Patrick O’Sullivan
Sanibel Island, Florida.
Mr. O’Sullivan holds a Juris Doctorate Degree from Suffolk University Law School, Boston, MA. He practiced law in Connecticut and Massachusetts for thirty years. When he left the practice of law in 2003, he was the senior partner of Furey and Donovan, a general practice law firm in Bristol, CT. Mr. O’Sullivan came to Florida in 2004, intending to retire, but The Autism Fund has altered these plans.
